Mentoring Program

I am an assistant professor at the Department of Human Geography and Urban Studies in the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences. At the Institute I’m also the international coordinator, who is responsible for the student applications, also for international mobility and integration programmes, and I’m quite committed to help students. From 2026 Spring I am becoming a mentor too. You can contact me if you are involved into geography, earth sciences or geoinformatics programmes, either BSc or MSc level. Whenever you need assistance with your timetable, have struggles with some of your courses and require practice, experience conflicts with professors or with other students, or find any traces of gender inequality or injustice, please don’t hesitate to reach out and consult with me, because we can do it!

I have been teaching at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics for over a decade, but I also studied here earlier, so I have experienced first-hand, both as a student and as a lecturer, the challenges one may face during university years. I believe it is essential that our students not only progress professionally but also receive the stability, support, and encouragement necessary for successfully continuing their studies and maintaining everyday balance. Over the years, I have supervised more than a hundred theses and supported many students with remedial teaching, study skills counselling, or simply through conversations. Since the academic year 2025, as the instructor of the Learning Methodology course, I have also had the opportunity to directly support students in their learning processes. As a mentor, I can now continue this supportive work in an official capacity, accessible to all students of the Institute. Through my own experiences – as a neurodivergent lecturer and a former student myself – I know well what it feels like to struggle with “invisible obstacles” and how much it matters to have someone to turn to. As a trained teacher, I find it important to provide not only professional knowledge but also human support, and I trust that I can offer useful guidance to those who need it.

Lindsay Butler - mentor student - Institue of Chemistry

Hello! As of summer 2026, I graduated with my BSc in chemistry from the University of Pécs. Currently, I am a MSc student within the same program. Besides studies, I conduct research in the Inorganic Chemistry Department, as well as work as a student assistant in the International Recruitment Office. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the cafes and shops of Pécs with friends. Throughout the years, I have also spent a lot of time exploring the Mecsek and other regions of Hungary/Croatia such as the Bükk, Börzsöny, Mátra, Gerecse, and Papuk mountains. If you find yourself with any questions regarding studies, student life, or even travel recommendations and exploration, I am always available. Time spent studying abroad can lead to some of the most fulfilling and invaluable experiences. Because of this, I am here to help in any way with making your time in Pécs memorable.

Balázs Sebesi – mentor teacher – Institue of Sport Science and Physical Education

As a mentor and lecturer at our university, my role is to guide and support students throughout their academic journey. I know that studying in a new country can sometimes feel overwhelming. Adjusting to a different culture, language, and educational system is not always easy. That is why I want you to know that you are not alone here.

In my work, I focus on helping students develop their strengths, discover their interests, and build confidence. Every student’s path is unique, and I believe that even the quietest voices deserve to be heard.
